Our History
Established in 2005 as a subsidiary of Etisalat Telecommunications Company, we have been at the forefront of technological advancement in Sudan’s communications industry. We were the first to introduce fixed wireless technologies for voice, internet, and data services, laying the groundwork for expanded connectivity across the nation.
In 2006, we launched the groundbreaking Canar GO service, marking Sudan’s first wireless broadband internet access. Powered by our 3G-CDMA broadband network, this service revolutionized the way individuals and businesses connected.
As data consumption surged, we remained a technological leader, introducing CanarMAX in 2012—a product based on WiMAX technology that delivered significantly faster data rates and enabled high-speed wireless broadband, even in remote locations.
Recognizing the growing importance of ICT for businesses, we expanded our offerings in 2012 to include a comprehensive suite of digital services such as managed services, machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions, and cloud services (SaaS and IaaS), transforming how Sudanese companies leveraged ICT to enhance operational efficiency and drive growth.
In 2016, the Bank of Khartoum acquired a 92.3% stake in Canar, marking a strategic investment in Sudan’s telecommunications sector. With the Bank’s century-long legacy of promoting economic growth, this acquisition underscored a shared commitment to advancing Sudan’s technological landscape.
Under the ownership of the Bank of Khartoum, Canar is poised for further growth, leveraging the bank’s financial resources and expertise to enhance our services and expand our reach. Our journey continued in late 2017 with the acquisition of a license to operate an LTE network, offering high-speed quasi-fiber broadband access and solidifying our position at the forefront of Sudan’s communications infrastructure.
